DescriptionThis recording was made in Tenejapa. The subject is the water festival that takes place each year. In this festival, they make offerings and venerate the springs so that they do not lack water during the coming year. The principal activities are the prayers and traditional dances. The participants are natives of the various communities in Tenejapa. Among the places in which the rituals are performed are: the church in San Ildefonso, the spring of Carmen Esperanza. They chat about various things at each break. They clean the area around the spring and the cross, additionally, they pray and dance while the musicians play. Also, they offer pox (a traditional drink) in honor of the festivals. Srs. Alonso Sántiz López and Antonio Intzin (residents of the county seat) are the ones that perform the prayers.
