Technical Description | Na Epifania says that she understands some Zapotec, and explains that there was intermarriage between people from San Francisco del Mar and Juchitán. She talks about how her children know the Huave language well, even if they do not speak much. Her husband used to scold her and tell her not to speak Huave to the children so that their speech would not be confused. He died young because he drank too much. Na Epifania mentions her diabetes and how she is not supposed to eat certain things, but she wants to, and wonders if it matters. Na Epifania asks about YK's brother. They talk about families they know with only boys or only girls; Na Epifania mentions a woman in the village who had two sets of twins, and about the decline of breastfeeding. Na Epifania talks about buying instead of cooking food, and the pills she has in case of stomach problems. She tells how three of her surviving children are teachers, but Eddie chose a career as a painter. He brought a friend on this visit but both of them need to leave that weekend. She notes that the festival of Guadalupe has just ended, and asks about YK's religion. |
