|Description||This collection includes materials pertaining to Renato Athias's fieldwork and research on the Hupd'äh people of the Upper Rio Negro region and other peoples of the region. Most of these materials were created by Athias during visits to Hupd'äh communities between 1974 and 1985. Other materials were created by Athias in collaboration with others in the 1990s through the 2010s, and a very small amount of materials were created by others and given to Athias. |
The materials include scanned images of notebooks containing ethnographic notes and transcriptions, scanned images of color slides, analytical documents written by Athias, including his theses written in Paris, and born-digital videos depicting dabucuri exchange ceremonies, meetings about cultural practices and reenactments of myths. A collection of audio cassettes recorded by Athias has been digitized and will be added to this collection.
Most of the materials in this collection are public, however a small amount of materials in folders "Restricted Media" is not publicly available.
The curation of this collection was made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
