| Description | This bundle consists of five texts made from the original recording. The themes discussed are the following: 1) Sixto describes all things related to the cultivation of maize before and today. He describes how the land is plowed with the use of animals and how the grain silo was made to store harvested corn. He also mentions the use of totomoxtle for making tamales, 2) Sixto describes how he works on his different parcels of land, where they are located and a little about how people worked before, 3) a description of traditional houses made with stick and sugarcane leaves, how a fence was placed around the house and all the materials used in the construction of this type of house. He talks about how houses were built for the purpose of pressing sugar cane and how he used to help in these kinds of projects, 4) Sixto describes where his house is located and how it is situated. He discusses how a house should not be placed, 5) Sixto describes the different festivals that occur in the community of Santa Lucía Teotepec during a period of a given year. He also names specific plants and describes how these only flower at night. Recorded with a Tascam HD-P2 solid state field recorder and Shure SM10A head-worn microphones in Reginaldo's house in the lower western room. These texts were recorded with a Sony HDR-HC9 Mini DV HD Handy cam digital video recorder for linguistic analysis and to capture Sixto's gestures while he speaks with Reginaldo. Sixto is facing south west as he speaks; Reginaldo is facing southeast. |
