Description | Most of the 121 photographs in this resource depict Waiwai people in the former British Guiana (Guyana today). The photos were taken between October 14 and December 31, 1954. The pictures concern three topics: (i) traveling south to the Brazilian Mapuera river, (ii) daily life in the head village of Yakayaka, and (iii) scenes from the Shodowika Feast. Some of the photos were damaged by water, heat, or double exposure. For further information about the Waiwai people, see: Fock, Neils. 1964. WaiWai: Religion and Society of an Amazonian Tribe. Copenhagen: The National Museum of Copenhagen. AILLA Resource WAW003R001. Items 001-121 are photographs. Item 122 is a guide with descriptions of the photographs. |
