DescriptionThis is a story written by Gerardo Sántiz Sántiz, a student in his sixth semester at the televised high-school in Bajucú, Municipio Las Margaritas, Chiapas, México. The author participated in a literature creation class that was held in March and April of 2007. He won first prize for his piece in Tojol-ab’al in the Bolom contest organized yearly by the State Center for Language Arts and Indigenous Literature (CELALI). The story is written in Tojol-ab’al with a translation in Spanish. The theme is ja jwawtik k’e’eni’ which deals with sacred places. The story comes from a conversation the writer had with an 80-year-old man from Plan de Ayala, Las Margaritas. This piece was part of a final activity for the class on literature creation, and later it was sent to the CELALI contest.
