DescriptionScope of the Collection

This collection of more than 111 myths, stories, chants, and narrations were recorded in the Nahua community of Amatlán (a pseudonym) and nearby communities - Veracruz, Mexico. The majority of recordings were done in 1990, but several date from 1985-1986 or 1998 (as noted).

The following table of contents lists the name of the storyteller and the title (in Nahuatl, Spanish, and English) and also identifies, in most cases, a recording session number, the date the recording was made, and information pertaining to the original cassette tape format (tape number, side, and counter numbers on the Sony tape recorder used to make the recordings, and/or the Dictaphone machine used for the transcriptions). The 1990 recordings also identify the original notebooks in which the transcriptions and translations were written by hand. The names of the assistants who transcribed and translated portions of the corpus of recordings is also summarized here.
