Description | This recording was made in the municipal seat of Tenejapa, documenting the festival of carnival that takes place each year, during the first weeks of February, presented by the traditional authorities. At the beginning of the film, Sra. María Girón Intzin (wife of a captain), mother of Antonia Sántiz Girón (project member), arrives at the church to ask blessings for her friends and family members who participate in the Carnival as "Captains." Later on the Captains, the Alfereces, musicians, all together go to the church to ask their blessings, for which Don Alonso Sántiz Girón is charged with the prayer, as a principal of the festival, afterwards they go down to play, to run in the field called "San Sebastián" known as Ye'tal Ch'en. |
