DescriptionThis recording was made with the people of the community of Chacoma, Tenejapa municipality, near the festival of the natural spring that takes place every year. This festival takes place over three consecutive Thursdays in the month of March. Of these, only two were able to be documented this year. The first Thursday (2007-03-08), they pass the church to make offerings to Santo Idelfonso. Sr. Pedro Meza, in the office of "Ts'unohel", was charged with performing the prayer. Later they go on to make an offering to each Angel or cross until they arrive at the spring called Santa Rosa.
The second Thursday (2007-03-15) they stay only in the church of San Idelfonso, asking his blessing for the people of the community of Chacoma and their springs.
Don Pedro Meza makes some observations concerning the spring, saying that the fiesta occurs in order to celebrate, adore and offer to the Angels where the water pipe passes; similarly, don Nicolás Meza Intzín, festival organizer, gives some suggestions and explanations concerning the customs.
The invitation to make this recording came from Sr. Alonso López Hernández, resident of the community of Chacoma who bears the office of sonowil "musiquero."
