DescriptionA story about the different wars that affected the people of Zinacantan. The storyteller was recruited as a soldier during the Mexican Revolution of 1917-1921 and fought with the Conservative forces in Chiapas. The story exemplifies the telescoping of time that often characterizes historical narrative.
Recorded in storyteller's home in Nabenchauc, Zinacantan.
The transcription and translation were published in Bricker (1981:286-317). The recording ends with a much shorter text describing an Indian king; a transcription (without a translation) of it appears in the .pdf file.
