Description | The narrator tells the story of Uxmal as it was told to him by his grandmother. The story is improvised (not read), but it has been told many times by this speaker. * The speaker tells the story in Maya, but Spanish is used in a few places, both for clarification and in general code-switching contexts. Near the beginning the storyteller asks the recorder if he should speak in Maya or Spanish. The speaker's brother is also present for part of the time and can be heard saying goodbye. |
