DescriptionIn 1981 James Howe made a visit of about ten days to Sasardi-Mulatupu in eastern San Blas (primary field site of anthropologists Joel Sherzer and Carlo Severi). While there, Howe recorded two cassettes with Saila (Chief) Muristo Pérez at home in Pérez' house.

In the text described here, Saila Muristo first narrates the history of the settling of the shore village of Sasardi and its successor island community Mulatupu-Sasardi, and then a history about Grandfather Kauna who lived in the Cauca Valley of Colombia. The story is part of a corpus of narratives typical of chiefly lore in eastern San Blas, in the sphere of influence first of Inanaginya and Inabaginya, later of Yabiliginya and Kauiti. These narratives are influenced by Christianity and popular Latin American history.
