Yuhup is a group of about 500 people located in the border between Colombia and Brazil, in the watershed areas between the Tiquié and Apaporis rivers. In Colombia, there are around 200 Yuhup. They live in the south of the Vaupés Department, spread along the Apaporis river and some of its tributaries: Taraira, Jotabeyá and Ugá (Mahecha et al., 2000b: 134). Although they are part of the cultural and linguistic complex of people with nomadic tradition of the Northwest Amazon region, Yuhup people are nowadays sedentary.

Los Yuhup son un grupo de aproximadamente 500 personas que viven en la frontera entre Colombia y Brasil, en las cuencas hidrográficas que hay entre los rios Tiquié y Apaporis. En Colombia, hay alrededor de unos 200 Yuhup. Ellos viven al sur del Departamento del Vaupés, esparcidos a lo largo del rio Apaporis y algunos de sus tributarios: Taraira, Jotabeyá and Ugá (Mahecha et al., 2000b: 134). Aunque el pueblo Yuhup es parte del complejo lingüístico y cultural de la gente con tradición nómada del noroeste de la región Amazónica, los Yuhup son hoy en día sedentarios.
