Technical DescriptionThis is another photograph taken during a performance by the visiting chief, Olowikdinappi, in the morning, using a flash. Two chiefs, Mastais, and visiting chief. The people in background complained that the chief did not want his photo taken, insisting that Sherzer should've asked permission. Olowikdinappi said that no, Sherzed did ask permission and that he wanted to be photographed and recorded by Sherzer. Women in the background are working on molas. In Mulatuppu in the 1970s, woman, anytime there was a ritualized occasion, they would sit nearby and work on molas. They bring their basket (seen to the right of the young woman's feet), and pull out their thread and fabric and begin working. Usually they arrive as families and friend groups. The women in the photography are listening to the men perform, while the women make their own contribution to the event by making molas.
